ExcerLock

Terms of use

Effective 8 September 2026. These terms cover the ExcerLock iPhone app and excerlock.com.

ExcerLock is made and operated by Johan Sardar, an individual developer in the United States ("we", "us"). By downloading or using ExcerLock you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. Your licence to use ExcerLock

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use ExcerLock on Apple devices you own or control, in line with Apple's App Store Terms of Service. We keep all rights in the app, its design, its name and its content. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that law expressly permits it despite this sentence.

2. Your account

ExcerLock creates an account on your device the first time you open it, and you can attach an email address, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google so that your setup survives a new phone. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13 years old. Keep your sign-in method secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

3. Subscription, billing and cancellation

ExcerLock is a paid app, sold as an auto-renewing subscription called ExcerLock Premium, in an annual plan and a monthly plan. Current prices are shown in the app before you buy and are confirmed by the App Store at purchase. Prices vary by country and can change; a change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

4. Free trial

The annual plan may be offered with a free trial. If you start one, it converts into a paid annual subscription automatically when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial's last day, and your Apple Account is charged the annual price at that point. The app sends a local reminder before the trial ends, but the responsibility to cancel in time is yours. Trials are limited to one per Apple Account per subscription group, as Apple enforces it. Starting a paid subscription forfeits any unused part of a trial.

5. Refunds

All purchases are handled by Apple, so all refunds are handled by Apple, under Apple's policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases, though if something in the app went wrong we would like to hear about it at support@excerlock.com.

6. Acceptable use

Use ExcerLock for its purpose: limiting your own screen time and earning it back with your own activity. You agree not to:

We may suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach of this section.

7. What the app can and cannot do

ExcerLock shields apps using Apple's Screen Time framework and detects activity using the iPhone's sensors, Apple Health and, if you enable it, location. Detection is best-effort and depends on iOS. Background delivery of health data can lag or stop, geofencing is imprecise, and a force-quit or a restart can delay a check. ExcerLock is designed so those limits never punish you, but we do not promise that a condition will always be detected instantly, that a shield will always apply, or that the app cannot be circumvented. It is a commitment device, not a security product. Do not rely on it in any situation where being blocked from an app could cause harm.

8. Not medical advice

ExcerLock is a habit tool, not a medical device and not a healthcare service. Nothing in the app is medical, psychological or fitness advice, and nothing in it diagnoses, treats or prevents any condition. The goals you set are yours. Talk to a qualified professional before starting or changing an exercise programme, especially if you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are recovering from an injury. Stop exercising and seek help if you feel unwell. Any health or fitness figure the app shows is an estimate from consumer sensors and should never be used to make a medical decision.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

ExcerLock is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and any warranty arising from a course of dealing. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that any defect will be corrected, or that data it records will be accurate or preserved. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost opportunity, or personal injury, arising out of or connected to your use of or inability to use ExcerLock, whether the claim is in contract, tort, strict liability or anything else, and even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to ExcerLock is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty United States dollars.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Johan Sardar from any claim, loss, liability or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the app.

12. Ending this agreement

You can end it at any time by cancelling your subscription with Apple and deleting the app. Deleting your account in the app's Settings erases your data as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, or if we stop offering ExcerLock, in which case we will give reasonable notice where we can. Sections 9, 10, 11, 15 and 16 survive the end of this agreement.

13. Apple

This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for ExcerLock or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide any support or maintenance for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app, including product liability, a failure to conform to a legal requirement, or a claim under consumer protection or privacy law. Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling or discharging any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version always lives at excerlock.com/terms with its effective date at the top. For a material change we will give notice in the app before it takes effect. Using ExcerLock after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, cancel your subscription and stop using the app.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. You and we agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to ExcerLock or these terms will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and we each consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the protection of your local courts and mandatory consumer rules, nothing here takes that away.

16. General

These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about ExcerLock. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the app, on notice to you.
